My trip to Okazaki castle, stared at 7am from yaizu by car with a stop at TOYOKAWA INARI SHRINE then to INUYAMA CASTLE , returning home at 8pm.....

Located in the eastern part of Aichi Prefecture in central Japan about 40 kilometers from southeast of Nagoya. Okazaki is about halfway between Tokyo and Osaka, halfway between Kyoto and Mount Fuji.

HOW TO GET TO OKAZAKI CITY

TRAIN

JR TOKAIDO line..gets you to Okazaki station..

Ieyasu grave????

..In my quest to see all 53 STATIONS of the OLD TOKAIDO ROAD, this is number 39....

IN HISTORY

This district is well-known as the birth place of Tokugawa Ieyasu, a founder of Tokugawa (Edo) government. You might want to spend a whole day for sightseeing in this district. There are many histrical spots.

Ieyasu lived in the Okazaki castle for 16 years: 6 years from the birth (1542) to 6yrs old when he was held as a hostage by Oda family, a famous sengoku-daimyo or feudal lord during the Japanese civil war period (He got captured on the way to Imagawa Yoshmoto (another famous sengoku daimyo)'s place-- he was supposed to be a Imagawa's hostage); and 10 years from when Imagawa Yoshimoto lost a famous war, Okehazama no kassen against Oda Nobunaga in 1560 to when Ieyasu moved to Hamamatsu castle.
After Ieyasu moved to Hamamatsu, his son, Nobuyasu became a master of the castle.

Okazaki was very important place to control Tokaido during the Edo period

The original castle was ruined, but it was reconstructed in 1959 and became a museum.

Distance from Nihonbashi: 315.1 km

Okazaki by Hiroshige

YAHAGI BRIDGE which is 208 km long , is the longest bridge on the Tokaido Highway...

It is noted not only for its lenght but for its graceful curve..In this print, YAHAGI BRIDGE streches across the picture from left to right and the DAIMYO procession crossing the bridge is depicted in precise detail from the rear..

The blue river water and the blue of misty MOUNT HONGU in the distance complement each other ....Seen beyond the far end of the bridge is teh DONJON of OKAZAKI CASTLE..

Ursula, Japan's feudal society history sounds both oppressive and esoteric. Nice work on Okazaki, tho. Thanks for your tip ratings on my W-R pages. Yes, the F-5 was an airshow aircraft. Have you seen my external aircraft site contributions? Doug

The food fermented for 3 years before the warriors ate it? They must have been high as kites when they went into battle!

Thanks for the pictures of the swords ! As I am doing Aikido here, I have a big passion for swords, but...... money fails. Therefore I'm always happy to see pictures of special swords :-)
