Yaizu is a sleepy little fishing port...About 10 minutes ride from shizuoka city station...

The city was founded on March 1 1951..

Yaizu is one of the oldest locality names appeared in Japanese history because prince YAMATO TAKERU (click)of the 4th century was nearly killed by a surrounding fire put by his foes on a trip to conquer eastern Japan.

Yaizu means "burning harbor"
yaizu man hole
Yaizu is famous for BONITO and TUNA fishes..Every morning there is a fish auction at YAIZU PORT..

even the manhole around town has the design.with a Tuna.....:)

Thank you for the very informative tips and great photos. Interesting stories behind some of the names...and the history of the area is quite curious. Would love to come out, just for some sashimi.
