  • One of the most important monument in Venice, and also one of the most beautiful, nice mosaics at the front facade as well.
The basilica is topped with an enormous cupola that is surrounded by several other smaller ones. As with many of the other churches in Italy, the fascade of the church is decorated with marble.
Though I been here twice, I never get the chance to step into the Basilica. The tourist in the summer months is simply overwhelming. Everywhere you go, there are hordes of tourists all over the place.

  • The most famous bridge in Venice. The bridge is flanked with shops, selling stuff ( Yeah, u guess it right, mostly Murano Glass). Apart from the boats below, the bridge is always stuffed with tourists. It's pretty hard to get by the birdge, and even tougher to get a good shot of yourself on the bridge. The bridge has three walkways: two along the outer balustrades, and a wider central walkway leading between two rows of small shops.

  • This is the view from Bridge Realto overlooking the Grand Canal. The canal is streaming with lives, there are always boats, gondolas & boat-taxis passing through the canal. They make good composition for photos.

  • A ride in the Gondolas along the canals in Venice is highly recommended. The ride took close to 45 minutes. Can't tell you the price of the ticket because it's all paid for by my tour. But I'd such a wonderful time riding the gondola.

  • One of the must see in Venice, you wouldn't miss it anyway if you're on a Gondola. Nicely situated where Canal Grande and Canale della Giudecca meet. It's massive and rather imposing on the Venetian evening sky. The Venetians built this Baroque church as a thanks for surviving the plague of 1630.
This is the pier we got on to our wonderful Gondola ride.

  • This church is located on the island of the same name. The church is Greek-styled with high belltower and huge monastery in adjacent.
You can easily see the church from the pier in St. Mark's Square, good spot for taking potraits with blurred background.
Sadly, I never get to the islands in both of my trips. The church houses works by Tintoretto - the last supper and shower of Manna.

  • This picture was taken on my Gondola ride. There are many many bridges like these connecting houses/streets in Venice.

Bridges: Bridge of Sighs - Ponte dei Sospiri

  • The "Bridge of Sighs" was so named for the “sighs of pain” from prisoners crossing from the palace to the dungeon-like prison. This Baraque style bridge has two parallel passageways - one way for prisioners going to the Council and another for those on the way back so they wouldn't meet and confer stories! This was their last chance to see the lagoon from the 3 windows and to sigh for their lost of liberty.

Great pic of Venice. My last visit was in 1997 - wow! almost 10 years. Well, life has to have humor but there is a certain limit. Don't you think so? Ho ho ho....

Very nice photos, and a good overview. Someday I will travel there!

You have some really nice photos of Venice. It's a shame that you did not get inside St. Mark's--it is one of my favorite churches. Maybe the third visit to Venice will be luckier.

Good photos (again) and some comments are spot on. I like your style. leyle
