Land of Buddha | Reclining Buddha in Wat Pho |
Living in Malaysia for so long and had never stepped foot in Thailand. (Tch...tch...) I don't know, it just never really occur to me to come here, it's too close to call a holiday. After 5 days here, Oh boy, I gotta say don't know what I been missing, really. I think I gonna come back here more frequently. (Thanks to AirAsia 2,000,000 tickets give-away in Dec 2005, got a RT ticket to BKK in April, paid only RM140 for fuel surcharge and airport tax.) Flying in with AirAsia and stepped out from the airport, the 1st thing that came to my mind is "Chaos". Before I came here, I was warned of the tuk-tuk drivers and cabs, who are ever ready to pounce on you on any given chance. You really have to be careful with these people. Or you gonna part away with your Baht!
16th Dec 05 - Receveid my phone bill today, was shocked the roaming charges in BKK is so expensive by my cell provider and their partner in TH. The charges for 5 days there is almost as much as I usually pay for my 1 full month phone bill locally! Phew. |
| The infamous Patpong Street |
Exciting Night Life It seems you will never run outta things to do in Bangkok at night. There is something for everyone. I gotta admit this, Bangkok has a much more vibrant night life to KL. Especially in Patpong / Silom area, good bargains are never to be missed in the night market. Walking along the night market, you will be approached and asked you if you want to go and watch the "Ping Pong" show. *LOL* I would rather not go there. (Look closely at my picture, it's a "Super Pussy" club!) Anyway, there is another thing that really surprises me about Bangkok, despite the poverty and the numerous rip-off I heard, it's really safe for you to walk on the streets at night, even to the more secluded area of the city. I was afraid of being mugged, but my concerns proved to be unfounded. |
The Land of Buddha Thailand is trully the land of Buddha, their religion is very much well-entrenched in their everyday life. (My tour guide to Ayuthaya told me there are close to 3 millions of buddha statues all over Thailand.) They have spirit houses at the front of almost every commercial buildings in the city. People can be quite superstitious too. I would say you read the Do's and Don'ts before going there, like do not touch a Thai's head. There are still a couple of temples which I wanted to go but don't have the time, but I can always go back there. |

nomorewars Sun Jun 10, 2007 01:34 UTC This page is absolutely awe-inspiring. You have provided me with a rare look into the every day life of the citizens of Bangkok. You cannot get this type of education anywhere else other than on VT. Favorite page thus far in 2007! | jadedmuse Thu Oct 5, 2006 02:26 UTC Nice job on the tips. I like your honest perspectives. Interesting about the head-touching. I used to have a Thai hairdresser. Lots of head touching there. | bpacker Thu Apr 20, 2006 11:47 UTC Cool, got Songkran pictures. Hmm, some chaps got powdered faces as well, why?? | dabidc Wed Jan 4, 2006 04:21 UTC Impressive photos of your visit to BKK, especially liked the feet of Budha, don't mess with him.
