Deserves further exploration | Road trip crew at Tartu square |
I will not pretend I know a lot about this old hanseatic town, I spent only few hours there. But I had wanted to see it since I saw Tartu2005's pictures, especially the railway station. And when she came to Tallinn to join us for the meeting there, I got the chance! The road trip crew decided to drive her home, it was one of two possibilities to get to Riga, and to stop for a lunch break at the irish pub she and her husband runs. None of us regret that decision!
Tartu, as well of the rest of Estonia, has a rich history, with cultural influence from Scandinavia, Germany, Finnland and Russia. It is the second largest city in Estonia, with appr. 100,000 inhabitants, and is situated 185 km south-east of Tallinn. One thing is sure; the town deserves more than just a short lunch stop! |
