Helsinki was the first stop on a road / rail / air trip to the north-eastern part of Europe. It all started with Brad (bradbrown) inviting me to the combined Helsinki / Tallinn meeting, and successively grew into a week of sightseeing in Finnland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus and Poland. The grand finale was the big 21st january meeting in London!
I had only been to one meeting before, a threesome meeting in Stavanger when a french member were here on business, and all of a sudden I was going to 7 meetings in a week!
Before the meeting started sunday 15th, Keti (pupulainen) took me for a sightseeing through Helsinki. |
Finland / Helsinki facts About 10% of the total population of Finland live in the capital Helsinki, which is the northernmost national capital on the European continent. Finland is popularely called the country of a thousand lakes, in fact there are more than 60,000! There are also huge forests. Timber and ore are the biggest natural resources. Standard of living is relatively high, with a life expectancy at birth of 78 years. Although far away from the North Atlantic Stream, Finland is influenced by it, thus the climate is comparatively mild. The currency in Finland is Euro. |
