A huge crater

Ngorongoro crater
This must have been some volcano once! We couldn't even see the walls on the other end in the early morning mist.

OOOPS. Just learned from Myndo's page that it is not a crater: "Not a crater, but a caldera. This means: the ground of this area broke in due to vulcanic activity. It is the 6th biggest Caldera in the world."

Lunch stop

What a beautiful spot for a lunch break! Semisubmerged hippos in the lake :-)

One way road

The roads up and down the crater walls were one way. Bright idea, since they were steep, narrow and winding.

What do you do when you just "have to go" in a place to this? Nowhere to hide, and no toilet in the vicinity? You just go behind the car, and ask the others to look another way ;-)

What an interesting adventure--even the bush pigs and kites contributed a little excitement to your visit! Regards from Texas...

Hei Marit. Love the story about the kite knocking you over whilst taking bread from your hand - what a fantastic experience! How did you arrange your safari - we are hoping to go in July.

Funny, I was looking at Ngorongor in google earth just today. I really like the place. Good page from you, I did not know you could also camp there!
