If you're happening to stay in southern Miami Dade County (Homestead, Cutler Ridge area) or, Northern Keys (Key Largo), one of the most convinient places to see the Everglades National Park is at Florida City's Alligator Farm.
Before Hurricane Andrew, in 1992, Florida city had a population of almost 9000 people permanently living there.
After August 24th, and with cAtegory 5 Hurricane Andrew making a direct hit through Florida City, Leisure City, Homestead and Cutler Ridge it was forever changed.
Most people moved away, rebuilding well into the 21st century. Even now, although new buildings and commerce has returned, much of it remains much different than it was.
- Pros:Wildlife, Orchid farms, convinient to Key Largo
- Cons:Far away from anything else
