Churchill is a small town on the Hudson Bay, roughly 600 miles north of International Falls, MN.
Churchill has been occpied for a long time, by the Dorset, Thule, and Dene people, who established trade networks which were utilized by Europeans in the fur trade during the 17th and 18th century.
Churchill is on a penninsula on the western Hudson Bay. It is a focal point for Beluga whales and other sealife, and therefore also for Polar Bears (who hunt Seal) and humans.
Churchill is called the Polar Bear Capital of the World, becuase each fall more than 1000 Polar Bears show up in the area, waiting for the ice pack to return.
Polar Bears are fascinating to watch, and this is a place where you can see them in a natural habitat.
Churchill is also a great place to see Beluga Whales and, in the winter months, it is in a prime location for the northern lights.
A Polar Bear can weigh more than 1500 lbs. They are mostly carnivorous, hunting Seals and opportunistically feeding on Beluga Whales and Caribou.
- Pros:Bear Brawls
- Cons:Bar brawls

Churchill is definitely one of my dream destinations.
Tonight one of the German TV stations (Phoenix) broadcast a documentary about Churchill, showing Tundra Buggies -- and lots of bears, of course. But it was later in the year than your visit, end of October. More snow, and bears being flown out of town.
