Dawson is a fun, remote northern Canadian town that has held on to the flavor of its history. This was a major hub during the Klondike gold rush days about 100 years ago.

You can drive from Whitehorse, or in the summer months, from Tok Alaska, via Chicken.

Dawson is right in the middle of the amazing Yukon Territory. There are lots of touristy but genuinely local shops and food, and lots of interesting history. An army of Canadian college students work as interpretive guides in the museums, churches, bars, and dance halls. Summer weather is awesome every time Ive been there.

Dawson is located on the eastern shore of the Yukon River. From here the Yukon flows all the way across Alaska to the Bering Sea, more than 1800 river miles downstream.

The Yukon river is still the most convenient way to get to many communities in Yukon and Alaska.

Dawson has has a park or two along the river banks, with large grassy areas for fairs, markets, or sunbathing.

Dawson is geared towards visitors, at least in the summer. There are plenty of good places to eat, lots of shops, excellent museums, great nightlife, and old fashioned dancing shows. Summer weather is great for walking, and everything is within easy walking distance.

Dont drive all the way out here and then blow through town in an afternoon - stay at least one full day and night.
