Mariazell is a small town, with about 2000 inhabitants,
in the north of Styria, amid a magic mountain world.
The formal foundation day of the town, on the 21st December 848, is annually celebrated.
This place is a centre of Central European spiritual lives,
and the most important pilgrimage site in Austria.
Numerous pilgrims from around the world come here annually,
to pray, but also, to admire the wonderful landscape.
The abundance of nature on Mariazell's borders is an attraction for many tourists.

The "Basilika"
The Basilica, founded in 1157,
is the main attraction and the heart of Mariazell.
The pilgrimage church is a beautiful construction, in Baroque style.
It holds a sacred statue of the Virgin.
The Gnadenstatue (statue of grace), is very old (13th century)
and attracts many believers to the site on weekend,
on 15 August (Assumption)
and 8 September (Mary's name day). |
The "Hauptplatz", in centre of Mariazell
The main place, at the bottom of basilica, is the centre of the city.
Here, there are many purchase stores, restaurants, and hotels that are run down from wonderful nature.
Here, on the "Hauptplatz", are located often, many celebrations and festivities.
