Venice, a city on the water

by Fam.Rauca - last update: May 24, 2007

A city like a poem

Venice is love on the first gaze and sensual pleasure.
It is a city like no other.
Here, I am always overwhelmed, from so much beauty.
A beautiful city.
A unique and unforgettable experience.
The 7, 5 sq km big area of the Centro storico, it lies in the biggest North-Adriatic lagoon, the Laguna Veneta, a 58,660 ah big saltwater basins between the estuaries of the rivers Brenta and Bacchiglione in the south and the Sile in the north.
The 3, 6 km long Ponte della Liberta, that was erected, from the Austrians in 1846, as Railroad Bridge, forms the single connection Venice with the mainland.
In the year 1933, the bridge became, widens with roadways for automobile traffic.

Venice is a city in the mirror of the nature

Venice owes to the water its different ness and attraction.
Water gives Venice another sound.
No streetcar rattle determines the urban sounds but sloshing of the lagoon, the gossip of the waves.
The existence of the city allows us, always new, magic, and shining pictures.
Its fame owes Venice, its situation, between heavens and sea.

Venice, a city of the art and history

In the year 552, belonged Venice nominally to the Byzantine Empire.
In the year 697, the Venetians chose their first duke, named Doge.
In the 9th Century began the construction of the Basilica di San Marco and the Palazzo Ducale (Dogenpalast).
At this time, the Venetians had acquired through the trade with the sea already big riches.
They did a virtue from the need and developed into gifted ship designers.
Venice, entertained in the ninth century, connections, to the eastern Mediterranean area, to North Africa and Asia.
At all times, Venice primarily remained a trading power, a metropolis of the merchants, bankers, and lenders.
