Stepping off the train and into the fairy tale. In late February of 2007 I finally got to visit Venice. It was something I have been looking forward to for years. My hubby and I took the train up from Rome and arrived in Venice at 1:30 in the afternoon. We walked outside the train station and just gasped. It was so beautiful, and we were just at the boat dock! We bought our ticket for the water bus and went into the waiting area dock. Within 5 minutes the boat pulled up to the dock and we were on our way to the hotel. It took about 20 minutes to get to our hotel which is located at the foot of the accademia bridge. We checked into our hotel and decided to explore the city. With map in hand we were off. Even with a map we got lost. We wandered down side streets, back alleys and dead ends. Finally, we reached St. Marks square. It is an incredible site to see. The buildings enclosing the square are huge, the square is enormous and full of pidgeons and the church and bell tower are beautiful. We looked around the square and then walked over to the doges palace. They were just closing for the evening so we decided to go to Harry's Bar. We had a belini and a hot chocolate and were on our way. |
