"Komiza" Komiza by ktorre

Komiza Travel Guide: 11 reviews and 26 photos

Komiza is a pretty town set around a natural harbor on the island of Vis. Boats and ships come from all over.

The buildings are mostly stone and have been here for generations. The town has a poputation of approximately 2000. The are friendly and intellegent. And unlike so many people today they have a real sence of place.

We are lucky that we still have so many people that we love still living there. So our visits are family visits. We have our coffee each morning at KeKe, a cafe down on the harbor. We swim at Kamenica & Lutitza beaches. We walk along the harbor. We boat to outlying islands and eat and drink some of the best food and wine in the world.

Area Sites

Beyond Komiza there are many other places to visit.

The town of Vis on the opposite side of the island from Komiza is the main port and a fun place to wander.

The island of Bisevo is a short boat ride away from Komiza and is home to a great sand beach and the marvelous Blue Cave. A must see for all visitors.

The island of Hvar is also in the area and is not to be missed. It attracts more tourist during the summer, but has many interesting sites. The main towns are Hvar and Stari Grad. Both offer a variety of sites and hotels and restaurants to enjoy. Cruise ships stop here frequently during the summer season. The fortress on the hill and one of the oldest theatres in Europe can be found in the city of Hvar.

Getting There

Most people fly into Split, the major harbor city on the mainland. There are ferries and speed boats that you can then take to the island.

If your ferry arrives in the harbor of Vis it is only a short bus or taxi ride over the hill to Komiza.

When you come be prepared to relax and enjoy the people, places and sites of this wonderful town.

We have been visiting for almost 10 years as my huband grew up in the capital city of Zagreb, but he and his sister spent his summers in Komiza and Hvar with their grandparents. It is an ideal place for families, kids can safely wonder until their hearts content.
