My first time in Harvard Square was on a Spanish class field trip to a Mexican restaurant around 1986. I instantly fell in love with Harvard Square's vibrant atmosphere: A diverse mixture of students and eccentrics, punks and hippies, homeless and the elite, street musicians and political activists. I spent my high school and college years exploring this little corner of Cambridge, never tiring of the many things to do here. Since that time many chain stores have moved in. Harvard Square has lost a lot of it's flavor. It resembles a suburban mall now, most of the unique stores are gone. My Cambridge pages will include many places reminiscent of the Harvard Square I grew up with. I assume you can do without my review of Ambercombie and Fitch or HMV records. |
