General Tips: post office and telephones
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: In the centre of all resort you will find the Post Office which is indicated in Bodrum with a yellow sign resding "P.T.T." The opening hours may vary from town to town but in general in high season your local post office is open from early morning until at least midnight and seven days a week. Here you can buy stamps and make telephone calls. Some accommodations sell stamps and will post letters and cards for you. When calling home of course the easiest way is to phone from your hotel or apartments. Most accommodations have direct telephones in the rooms or if not the reception can connect you.

    General Tips: drinking water
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: I recommend that you do not drink the tap water in Bodrum due to it's high mineral content. Both 1 litre and 5 litre bottles can be purchased or from the bar or market in your accommodation or from one of the many markets around the resort. For those staying in self-catering acommodation the tap water can be used for making tea or coffee as there is no problem once the water is boiled.

    General Tips: electricity
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: The voltage here in Bodrum is 220 volts. All electical appliances may be used here but of course as the pluds here are different i.e. 2 pin circular, then you will need a treveller adapter. Unlike Europe, most Turkish bathrooms have sockets and we advise caution when using these. From time to time power cuts may occur which unfortunately are out outt of our control but generally they do not last very long and normally power is quikly restored.

Fondest Memory: A gulet: A gulet is an all wooden motor sailing yacht built for cruising the coasts in the calm warm waters of the Mediterranean. These yachts are built to center life on deck during the charter. Spacious decks and housing a large (usually) aft half mooned shaped dining and lounging area are their main features.

The number of passengers a gulet carries varies, according to size, between 8 and 16. On a 17 to 25 meter boat, that is quite a breathing space for each person considering that every passenger has private quarters and jointly used decks, saloons, etc. are quite spacious.

A gulet can best be compared to a small hotel afloat. There are double berths in each cabin and occasionally, upper bunks. Every cabin has its and shower. The crew sleeps and uses the facilities in their separate

Common quarters include a large saloon, a fully equipped galley commanded by a cook, lots of uncluttered deck space, sun mattresses strewn all over to laze on while tanning. Round sterned gulets have a mattress covered perch in the aft that is called a "pigeon's nest", the most comfortable place to lounge or nap on the boat, protected by awnings. Unlike a bareboat, which is often limited in water supply, a gulet offers the chance to wash off the salt after every swimming party, as it takes up to 3 tons of fresh water.
