Local Customs: Mesilla Valley Balloon Rally

  • Usually there is about 100 balloons that fill the sky during this event. It is in January every year. The dates change every year so be sure to check out the web site. For a donation you can go up in a tethered balloon and see Las Cruces from the air.

    Local Customs: Whole Enchilada Fiesta

  • Every September come and see the World's Largest Enchilada be made right in front of your eyes. Then after it's done then you can eat a piece of it. The fiesta usually lasts for 3 days and is host to food, games, dancing, and of course the making of the world's largest enchilada. Just to give you guys an idea about how big it really is, here are the ingredients:

    750 lbs. of stone ground corn to make the Masa tortillas

    175 gallons of vegetable oil, heated to cook the tortillas

    75 gallons of red chile sauce

    175 lbs. of grated cheese

    50 lbs. chopped onions

    Local Customs: Trinity Site Tour
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Trinity Site is the location where the first atomic bomb was exploded. It is open to the public twice a year. Usually in April and October. Check out the website for more detail.

    **** This year (2005) it is open an extra day on July 16th because it is the 60th anniversary.

    Local Customs: Cinco De Mayo Fiesta
  • Tip Rating:
  • A traditional Mexican Fiesta held every year the weekend of May 5th. You can experiance traditional mexican food, music and dance. This fiesta takes place in historic old mesilla.

    Local Customs: Southern New Mexico Wine Festival

  • You can taste wine and enjoy live entertainment. Located at the Southern New Mexico State Fairground. It is usually in May.

    Local Customs: 4th of July Electric Light Parade

  • This event happens every July 3rd Evening. The parade begins at the corner of Solano Drive and Madrid Street. It heads south on Solano and makes a left at Spruce. Free to the public.

    Local Customs: 4th of July Celebration and Fireworks

  • Enjoy music, entertainment booths, food, and end the night with a large fireworks show. Every 4th of July. Celebration held at the Hadley Complex, 1605 Hadley Street.

  • Get lost in a cornfield. This cornfield maze usually opens during October all the way until Halloween. 3855 w. Picacho ave.

    Local Customs: Southern New Mexico State Fair
  • Tip Rating:
  • New Mexico's 2nd Largest Fair. Usually runs from late September to early October. There are rides, food, music, shows, a midway, rodeo, livestock show and much more. Located at the southern New Mexico State Fairgrounds.
