Kotor Kotor is a fascinating town which lies at the foot of one of Europes deepest fjords. It's main attraction is an old medieval walled town which is UNESCO listed and dates back to the 12th Century. Once in the fjord the views in all directions are fantastic, whether its from the port area looking up to the steep hills, or making your way up the winding path behind the old town to a height of atleast 400 ft! |
The Old Town Amongst the entanglement of streets lie old churches and squares which are linked together by narrow streets which contain shops, bars, restaurants, houses and quite a lot of cats and dogs. Directly behind the old town the fjord rises steeply, and an ancient stone pathway consisting of over 1200 steps takes you to an old fortress at the top, passing many shrines and ruined battlements along the way. |

Stunning Views From Above Old Town If it is not too hot, too dark, or too slippery, the highlight of your visit to Kotor will be climbing these old walls. The views are outstanding and it makes you feel like you are in another world. |

shutterlust Mon Apr 30, 2007 23:07 UTC Oh I would love to go here...but it looks like I'm not going to be able to afford it! I'm going to be staying a month at Oxford, then cycling the NL ...and north England (!) and Copenhagen again this summer...and now Zurich. Montenegro may have to wait... | vesna04 Thu Sep 29, 2005 17:13 UTC Dear friend, I am suprised as much as you was:) I have no idea what was wrong..wish I was there to hear what she was saying...Sorry:( | Wild_Orchid Sat Jul 16, 2005 01:50 UTC very interesting. The word "koto" in the Malay language means "dirty"-which of course, this town is not! nice tips. Fiords are always interesting. | mikelisaanna Wed Jul 13, 2005 02:23 UTC Great pictures from your climb up the Kotor walls. Kotor and the surrounding scenery were definitely worth the visit. |
