The focul point of the centre of Lille is the splendid Place du General de Gaulle. You will find the Chamber of Commerce & Belfry, Vielle Bourse Stock Exchange building and courtyard (both great examples of Flemish Architecture) together with the Opera House and Theatre du Nord. Like many large open squares in cities across the world, the one in Lille is where many people come to to socialise and enjoy the atmosphere. |
| | Around the centre 1 Lille's narrow and many cobbled streets around the centre are very pedestrian friendly. My friend and i must have walked along so many of them which cross and bisect each other and they were all charming and pleasant. If you are not admiring the Flemish architecture then there are plenty of smart charming shops and boutiques to look at, and also a good choice of restaurants mainly serving delicious French cuisine. |
| | Around the centre 2 The streets make great wandering and there are always examples of great architecture around every corner or the sight of a landmark building in the view. |
