Shabwa is a large region between the border with Arabia Saudi and the ocean. Its plains, between the desert and the sandy coast, were the land of two important caravan kingdoms, the most important after Sabean kingdom in Marib: Hadramut and Qataban. They had their main cities in Shabwa and Timna. Shabwah region is visted mainly because of thr ruins of Shabwa and the wonderful Bir Ali beach. Some areas of the region are dangerous: in the north there is the famous Rub Al Kali desert, one of the dryiest deserts on earth. Also, sometimes you may find conflicts between beduin people. Anyway, south part of the region is quite and has excellent beaches like Bir Ali, and you may cross desert without trouble if you hire a beduin guide. Beduin guides are excellent people, who are very helpful because of their knowledge of the desert. |
| | Beduin people left using their camels to cross the desert time ago. Now they use modern japanese cars 4x4. But they still love camels , and they have it beacuse of meat and...prestige. |
