If you're staying in St. Petersburg you won't see real russian life like you imagine! St. Petersburg is very european and becomes more and more modern. Slisselburg is only about 1 hour away from St. Petersburg situated at the lake of Ladoga. There reason why I went there was that I wanted to see lake ladoga! Finally I succeeded even if the weather was terrible! A journey to Slisselburg is worth it if you want to see real russian life and lake ladoga! It's not beautiful, but it's russian! If you want to see the krepost (fortress) that is situated nearby, make sure you won't go to slisselburg by train. In that case you have to take the train to petropavlovsk from finland railwaystation in st petersburg.
