Songkran - Thai New Year When I was young, I really enjoyed in Songkran festival.
Before Songkran for a few days, my mam made some Thai desserts. We gave our homemade dessert to out neighbours and they gave their back.
Songkran Day on 13th April,Mam woke up in early morning to cook. After that my whole family went to the temple, we brought our food to the temple..our neighbours too.The temple is plenty of food and desserts.
After the praying, the monks had food. Then it's time of local people. We had food with another families, after we had finished we washed the dishes together.
At home, We had prepared our water, mixed purfume then pour off our grandfather+grandmather, dad+mam and older relatives. They gave us the good wishes.
At my home,my dad took Buddha stutue outside to bathe Lord Buddha. Every people in our family like to bathe Buddha Statue with perfume water everyday for a week.
After going to the temple, then it's time of kids and younger people. We went out with a bowl of water and tried to water everybody who passed by.Sometimes I put a big piece of ice to make cold water. We also had powdwe mix water to powder people too. It was very very good fun time.
Nowadays, I saw water guns and many hands just pretend to powder, somebody touch ladies disrespectfully. .. .. My Songkran had gone.
Anyway, Even you are Farang or Thai - hope you enjoy Thai New Year. :)

| | MaKa BhuCha VS. Valentine Yesterday was "MaKa BhuCha" day, Buddhist holiday.
"MaKa BhuCha" (Bhu-Cha = Puja in India) means the day that the monks came to first meeting on about 2549 years ago without notice or making an appointment.
Buddhists suppose to go to the temple and "Vien Tien" (walks around the temple with lighten candle in the hands together at the chest for 3 rounds and pray sanskrit Buddhism scripts).
I'm a not good Buddhist, I havn't gone to temple for many years, but I'm still a Buddhist.
Every Buddhist holidays, it's illegal to buy$sell alcohol, so there was no bars yesterday (but having booze at home is OK. :)
What about today? It's Valentine day.
As you know Thai people's glad to take every festivals from every cultures easily. Christmas , International New year, Chinese new year, Haloween etc. How lovely Thai, eh!?!
A ton of lovers go out, every restaurants and bars are full of duo customers. Roses are very very expensive.....
...but the way of life is nothing.

Call Bangkok with Bangkok's real name Do you know real name of Bangkok??
Most of Thai people call "Krung Thep" means The City of Angels.
This is the full name of Krung Thep :
Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit
,which means
The city of angels, the great city, the eternal jewel city, the impregnable city of God Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukarn.
So,please call Bangkok with Bangkok's real name. | | | Yi-Peng, Loy Krathong Day in the north |
