Kalam is a fantastic little village/town located in the Northern Areas of Pakistan, fairly popular with both Pakistani, and foreign tourists.

The best way to get there, of course, is to have your own car. You can rent cars from all major cities in Pakistan.

If you are really adventurous, and have a strong stomach, you can take the overcrowded buses. Why the strong stomach? 2 reasons: 1. the polluted traffic smoke and dust blowing in, when passing through smaller towns and 2. On the mountains, these drivers are dare devils, and they drive at a discomforting pace :).

If you visit Pakistan in the summer, a visit to the mountain range towns, Naran or Kalam, are an extremely welcome escape from the intense heat.

The people are friendly, food is okay, the hotels are reasonably priced, and it is a very affordable experience.

Kalam is a fantastic, quite, magnificent, and spiritual place...plan to spend a few days there.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Beautiful nature, cool in the summer, laid back and relaxed...time takes a break here
Cons:If you are going to Kalam for a night life, fugheddabbateet :)
