I would have to agree that Paris is one of the world's great cities.
Aside from the splendid sights, its really the atmosphere that grabs you. There are so many places to soak it up - the Champs Elysees as one example, we people watched and took it all in, but at 9 Euro per 12oz glass of beer, it didn't last too long............ |
We arrived in Paris after an overnite train from Germany and stayed in the Latin quarter which is a good central location on the left bank.
A good idea is to get a ticket on the "hop on / hop off" bus which takes you on a 2½ hour circuit (9 stop points) of some of the main sights.
We had four days in Paris which is probably the minimum I would recommend. Our highlights included:
- Notre Dame - Louvre - Wandering by the River Seine on both the left and right banks - Arc de Triomphe - Champs-Elysees - Place de la Concorde - Opera Garnier (Paris' stunning and renowned opera house) - Eiffel Tower - Invalides and the Musee de Armee (includes Napoleon's tomb) - Versailles Palace on the outskirts of Paris |
You could spend forever in Paris and at some of its attractions. |

Nemorino Thu Apr 23, 2009 21:51 UTC Glad you enjoyed your visit to Paris! And I'm glad to hear that you went there by overnight train from Germany. I used to do that too, but now the daytime trains are so fast that I usually take them instead. |
