Killarney was a wonderful location to have as a central base for touring the southwestern regions of the Island.
The town claims to have been a tourist town since the mid-17th century. You'll always find tons of souvenir shops, but also a ton of great bars and local crafts. When you combine that with the scenery of the coastlines and National Forests - well, it's almost perfection itself. |
Orientation The center of town is the T-junction where New Street meets High and Main Streets. As it heads south, High becomes Main then swings around to the left into East Avenue Road where all the large hotels are... The national park is to the south, and the bus and train stations are to the east of the center. |
We used Killarney as a base to tour the Ring of Kerry and surrounding countryside. I cannot recommend this highly enough. A simple day trip to the area is just not sufficient - take a few days at the very least to enjoy County Kerry. |
