There are many ways to describe San Angelo to someone who is thinking about coming here. My favorite? "Go back while you can."
If you are looking for exciting things to do, an exciting night life, good restaurants, eco-trips or an animal friendly place-this is not the town you wanna visit.
At first glance one may think they are in Mexico and upon closer inspection you may just check your passport for a wet stamp. If it weren't for the semi-drinkable water and absence of border patrol, you may be suckled into the daydream of a real fun place! Some of the buildings are charming and sure you might get lucky and find a restaurant that doesn't employ every other waitress as "Becky Sue" but that won't even begin to mask the depression you will encounter upon venturing into the night. Nightclubs you ask? Graham's Central Station is a semi-safe bet if your looking for a place to go dance. Scoot your boots off in the testoserone filled Denim and Diamonds room where they have 2 kinds of music...country AND western, get smashed in the karaoke room where every singer gets better and better with each drink or feel back at home in Compton in the South Beach room. No techno, no progressive music, just pure hip-hop non stop. That IS South Beach isn't it? *cough
Wanna go to church? There are literally dozens sprawled. Choose your denomination! I will give it to the Town Comittee who voted in the new San Angelo welcome center where you can find a few things to do if you are not easily amused.
After being here, one might feel the need to seek professional advice. The yellow pages has a very limited number of psychiatrists who are licensed to practice here.
Love to shop? We have one mall Whoop-de-freakin-doo-da! The stores are slowly becoming progressive. Hot topic finally arrived here as well as ..well I can't think of much else worth seeing there...onto the next subject of interest in beautiful San Angelo.
The riverwalk! Do not confuse this with the San Antonio riverwalk where there are actual stores. This river, when it actually has water in it , is quite pleasant. Take a stroll down it hand in hand with your lover and look at the beautiful......water. Thats it. Nothing else there.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Great if you aren't social or have no preferences.
  • Cons:Incredibly hot summers, not much to do at all.
  • In a nutshell:So much more than Mexico.
