Edinburgh

The Old Town

A very moody Edinburgh
A visit to Edinburgh is not complete without walking the whole of the royal mile. From the Castle gate down to Hollyrood, it's an interesting wander down hill, past pubs, churches and whiskey sellers.
Mary Queen of Scots

The People

The Scots are a great bunch and very, very welcoming of Kiwi visitors - once they realise that you are not from England you are often treated like a long, lost family member. If you don't already know there is a long history between mother England and Scotland (remember Collodan....)
The clothing of choice of many a Scot is the Kilt and you can see many Kilt clad gents playing their pipes down the Royal Mile for an appreciative crowd of tourists.

Many things to see and do.

Edinburgh has everything from exceptional whiskey tastings to a tour of Mary King's Close under the streets of the old town. A walk around the castle is a must as is a stroll down the Royal Mile - viewed by many as the real Edinburgh. A sample of Haggis, Tatties and Neaps is something you may wish to do as is buying your clan tartan (there's a tenuous link to some Scottish line somewhere in many family histories - It's clan Sinclair for me).

Nice look at your Edinburgh page loved the discription of the National Monument = I think it has been superseeded by the New Parliament
