    • With Venice's history requiring most of its food and water to be brought in, a group of savvy merchants soon developed. Much has been recorded about them even including a play by Shakespeare.

    When you are in Venice nothing is a problem when needing to have items mailed or shiped or transported wherever you want. The Venetian merchant network appears to extend all over the world. A visit to the ubiquitous glass merchant will give you quick proof of this as they have a well defined and planned shipping network.

    The map of Venice in the Vatican musuem reflects the transport of goods theme with its inclusion of ships. I took the photo during the same trip but several days after I had wandered around the Island city of Venice.
