The cities name, Nairobi, comes from a Masai phrase translating to "the place of cool waters" though is apparently known as the "Green City in the Sun". I was here in August and September and the city is anything but green. Not sure about the cool waters part either given the state of the namesake river running through the centre of Nairobi.
The city was founded in 1899 and grew to become the capital of British East Africa and later the capital of a free Kenyan republic in 1963. Nairobi is the most populous city in East Africa with a current estimated population of about 3 million.
Nairobi is 1795 metres above sea level so has a moderate climate.
Nairobi has many parks and open spaces throughout the city. The most famous park in Nairobi is Uhuru Park. The park borders the central business district and the neighbourhood Upper Hill. Uhuru (Freedom) Park is a centre for outdoor speeches, services and rallies.
Central Park is adjacent to Uhuru Park and includes a memorial for Jomo Kenyatta, the first president of Kenya.
Nairobi is home to several museums. The National Museum of Kenya is the largest in the city. It houses a large collection of artefacts, including the full remains of a homo erectus boy. The Museum has Kenya as the birthplace of mankind (though this currently seems to be in South Africa. Other prominent museums include the Nairobi Railway Museum.

It's been more than a year! Must be time for your next African adventure lol.....
Anne and I were also told that these carvings were from Egypt. I could not work out why Egyptian carvings would be out the back of a nairobi Museum though LOL:)
