Oh Calcutta: Best Indian in Parnell
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Restaurant Name: Oh Calcutta

You'd think with a name like Oh Calcutta this place might not be that good however you would be completely wrong. The setting on Parnell Rise is really good with a few outside seats kept warm, if it's on the chilly side, by some heaters on the ceiling.

The service was quick and the food really good. A good selection of beer was on the menu & my friends (one Irish & one from Hong Kong) had the Kingfisher Strong & Tiger beer respectively. The food came from all Indian directions so choice was not an issue - everything from the (fatty) buttered stuff to very hot Vindaloo.

Favorite Dish: The Fish Tikka was surperb and the Tandori Chicken quite large. The Chicken Madras was very nice and the fragrant rice complemented the meat.

Diablo is one of many spots to eat on Ponsonby road. We stopped here at approx 9pm on a Tuesday night and got a seat easy. The service was good and the selection of wine & beer okay. The menu had all sorts of options with the Pizza probably the most popular dish.

Favorite Dish: I had a make your own Pizza (you choose 4 toppings) and this was quite good. Not the best Pizza in town but good nontheless. The cost was $19.

Sawadee Thai Cuisine: Best Thai in Auckland
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Sawadee Thai Cuisine

Sawadee is one place to make sure you visit when in Auckland if you like Thai food. The service here is great and the selection excellent. I came here on Halloween and the waitresses were all dressed up as Vampires & Witches.

Once we had ordered the food came out really fast. It was really delicious and there was lots of it.

Favorite Dish: I had the beef and chicken with veges dish and it was great.

Tonys Lord Nelson Restaurant: Steak House
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Tonys Lord Nelson Restaurant

I have been coming to Tonys for 20 years or so on various business trips to Auckland. The steak here is of a good quality with a very big selection of different cuts plus a few other options for those who may not be so keen on the red meat.

The restaurant is over two levels with street access from Victoria St via a small door that doesn't look too inviting. Once inside though you are hit with an old steak place feel that, or better or worse, hasn't changed that much since 1983 when I came here first.

The wine list is okay with a reasonable selection of cheaper and more expensive wines. The Jim Barry Cab Sav is a good match with most of the steaks.

Favorite Dish: Easily my favourite here is the Giant T Bone done medium rare. Always very juicy and tender. At $28.50 it is well priced when compared to other places offering a similar product.
