Decided to stay here after getting a tremendous deal - $55 for a Monday night. Arrive around 9:00 in the evening, no line to check in. Check in staff is very friendly. I got a funbook at check-in with several good deals on property dining and shopping. The rooms are gorgeous. I had a King sized bed with plenty of room to walk around, and they had a big plasma TV on the wall. Bathrooms are large and nicely decorated. Everything was very clean, and everyone I came across was quite friendly. All in all, this was a great room, one of the nicest I've stayed at in Vegas. The casino itself is very large with just about any game you want, tables or machines. I wasn't able to tell how good the drink service was. They have a large high-rise parking garage that is very well-lit.
Unique Qualities: Since the property is so far south on the strip, you'll probably want to rent a car rather than using taxis if you plan to head to other parts of the city during your stay.

Definitely one of the nicest mid-range priced places we've stayed at. The staff was quite friendly. The rooms have beautiful furniture. Watch out for vertigo when staying in the pyramid! You can find decent gambling here - some $5 tables for BJ and Pai Gow. Tipping $1 per drink keeps 'em coming! The interior is cool - stays with the theme very well. Easy access to both the Excalibur and Mandalay Bay. Prices have gone down here in the last few years. It is a great bargain.
Unique Qualities: Didn't use the pool (went during winter). Riding the inclinator up to the room does feel a little strange.

Let's face it, I love the cheesy hotels. Here, the theme is obviously castles and sorcerey. Check-in was a breeze, and we found the staff to be very friendly. Years ago, the table limits were low, but they have gone up a bit over the years, and we no longer think of the Excalibur as having "cheap" gaming. The rooms were serviceable. Avoid the buffet at all costs. They also have one of those "Medieval Times" dinner shows with jousting - food there gave us indigestion as well. The pool is small and nothing special.
Unique Qualities: Small monorail to the Luxor and Mandalay Bay, but if you need to walk off al the food you've been indulging in, skip it as you can walk between the three casinos without having to go outside.

Check-in wasn't much of a problem. The bell staff was a little surly. We were in the cheaper rooms (the motel style rooms in back called the "garden" rooms). It's a bit of a hike to get to the casino from these rooms. The decor is a little dated, but other than that, the rooms are pretty clean. The hotel is in a pretty great location for the South Strip, especially since they have the pedestrian bridges to the MGM and Excalibur. A good coffee shop and a terrible buffet. Casino is below average as far as table games due to high minimums. Some of the neighboring casinos (Luxor, MGM) are more modern for a similar price, so I'd check those out first.
Unique Qualities: Went in early spring before it was pool weather so we didn't get to try the "swim-up" blackjack, a fairly unqiue idea.

The San Remo has a lot going for it, but we'll have to see what they lose once it becomes the Hooters Casino. Location is very good - next to the Tropicana and across from the MGM. Check-in was a bit slow on a Saturday morning, but not too painful. Staff seemed friendly enough. Ordinary pool area. Rooms are nothing spectacular, but great for the price. We found that staying here was only a couple of bucks more than the Motel 6 next door, and you get access to a casino. The casino is small, but they do have fairly low limits. Machines seem to be a bit on the older side. Restuarants on-site are nothing to get too excited over. This is a great option for now if you're on the south end of the strip. Rates are very affordable, the casino has some solid qualities, and the rooms are OK.

Stayed here for a Saturday night to avoid casino prices. While inexpensive, it is terribly inconvienent. To get over to the Excalibur, you need to walk under I-15 where many homeless folks sleep. There's no casino closer than the Wild Wild West, which isn't very large. The rooms are clean but standard for a Motel 6. Didn't seem to be overly crowded - check in only took a few minutes.
Unique Qualities: Just a place to crash for the night - don't look for anything else if you stay here.

I believe I read somewhere this is the largest Motel 6 in the world. It is huge! Check-in can take a while since it's so big and they only have a person or two on staff. Rooms are small and of standard motel quality. Location is a little better than many chains - next door to the San Remo (soon to be Hooters) and down the street from the MGM and Tropicana. Some of the clientele was a little shady, and there were a few loud parties in the motel. Didn't take the time to check out the rest of the grounds. For a Saturday stay, to avoid the high casino rates we might consider this one again, but there are probably better choices. I would not say you are guaranteed that good night of sleep.
Unique Qualities: Nothing, really.

The casino is a monster, so be sure you know where exactly you are going to meet. I stayed in the Emerald Tower, which was a bit older, but also quite a bit cheaper. Check-in was not too busy, but the desk staff did have several problems trying to transfer our reservation to a different credit card. Other than that, the service was pretty good. Due to the higher table limits, we didn't gamble much here, and when we did, it was at the machines - drink service was almost non-existent. Buffet is OK, but a bit overpriced for what you get.
Unique Qualities: Be sure to check out the lion habitat to see if they're actually awake. The pool area is awesome. Spent all of the time floating along the lazy river. A bit crowded, but a great way to cool off.

This is probably the best resort I've stayed at in all my trips to Vegas. Check-in was fast and the service was friendly. The rooms are huge with nice couches and comfortable beds (and a small window in the bathroom that you can look out onto the rest of the property). The casino is massive with a wide selection of machines and table games with some decent minimum limits. Plenty of good restaurants to try out. The one drawback is that this is off strip. There are shuttles that go to the Gold Coast and Barbary Coast, but they stop running around midnight, so you either have to take a cab or get on the last shuttle before it turns into a pumpkin. An outstanding property.
Unique Qualities: A pretty clean and uncrowded pool area. They also have a monsterous (70 lane) bowling alley which was in great condition and fairly priced. There's a movie theater on site as well, so there's plenty to do if you want to take a break from the tables.

The Monte Carlo has a lot going for it. Check-in was very fast and we were even able to get a room at 9:00 am the day of our check-in. The staff was very nice. Rooms are good sized and clean. Plenty of nice options for food on-site: a food court, brewpub, OK buffet, and nicer restaurants. Casino is large and has something for all including some lower table minimums and a decent assortment of machines. Good access to nearby casinos (NYNY, MGM). Prices have come down in recent years making the Monte Carlo very affordable. It's theme is a little boring, but it's a nice place for what you're paying. Definitely a place to consider.
Unique Qualities: The pool has several nice features: a lazy river, a wave pool, and other smaller pools. Spend some time here to cool off. There was a monorail between the Monte Carlo and Bellagio. It was supposed to start running again at some point, and can help you cover a lot of ground when it it going. Hopefully, it's up again soon.
