A Battle for Missouri - Wilson's Creek National Battlefield

In 1861, just outside of Springfield, MO, the Union and Confederate forces met in a battle for control of Missouri. The battle cost both sides a combined 2,500 lives, and though the Union lost the battle, they ultimately kept Missouri out of Confederate control.
