For some reason, North Americans seem to overlook Brussels as a must-see city when they take their backpacking European trips. However, during my stay in Belgium I grew to like Brussels as one of my favourite cities in the world. It's a gorgeous city. Just absolutely gorgeous.

Of the few North Americans I met who HAD visited Brussels (or Bruxelles in French) hadn't strayed very far from the Grand Place. This is wrong! In my opinion the most majestic parts of the city are a good walk away from the central square (which is nonetheless stunning). And walk it should be...downtown Brussels is a crowd of beautiful and distinct buildings, peaceful parks and gardens, and public art.
