"The Most Beautiful City in the World?" Prague by angelarm

I have never heard anyone say they were disappointed after visiting Prague! It seems to have become one of the must-see cities for travels in Europe. I was there in autumn of 2001 as a lone backpacker. I met up with Ivana, a Slovakian friend from grad school, who took the train in from Presov for the weekend.
There is beauty everywhere! If you enjoy ornate architecture, you'll find a lot of it here. This place has one of the highest concentrations of "Art Nouveau" or "Jugendstil" style architecture in Europe. Czechoslovakia/ Bohemia was the home of Alfons Mucha, the artist who designed popular broadsides and advertisements during the early 20th century, primarily in Paris. He also was contracted to produce fine art projects for the interior of the Municipal House and a stained-glass window of St. Vitus' Cathedral. Here you can see an exterior view of the Municipal house and just a taste of the beauty that can be found on Prague's streets.
From what I've heard, the city of Prague has worked hard in the last decade to make itself a desirable tourist destination. The results are stunning. It's also been featured in many recent blockbuster films; the reasons are obvious. Turn any corner and discover exquisite attention to detail on store fronts, building accents, and signs. Space is used wisely--a quaint restaurant tucked into a basement that felt like a cozy wine cellar (we wouldn't have even known it was there had we not asked a local for a recommendation), or an internet cafe situated at the end of a cobblestoned interior courtyard. Even street lighting appears to have been carefully planned. There is a certain mood in Prague. It is magical!
- Pros:Art/ Architecture/ Music in abundance, relatively economical
