For many years I visited Melbourne every 3 or 4 months. I love the city and am always keen to go back.
Melbourne is full of fantastic cafes and resturants and a short visit is all about fitting in all the great places to eat. Lygon St is where you'll get some of the top food, but I've never eaten badly anywhere.
Shopping on any budget is an absolute delight. There are hundreds of places in FItzroy, Chapel St, St Kilda and the gorgeous alleyways in the city centre.
Melbourne is Australia's live music meca (beat.com.au and amo.org.au/ for info and gig guides) Fitzroy and St Kilda are the 2 main scenes.
If it's a rainy day and I'd highly recomend both the Melbourne Museum and Art Gallery of Victoria. The Vic markets (elizabeth st) are well worth a visit also. |
