I took a bike tour with a company called Fat Tire out to Versailles. It was enjoyable but I didn’t get to see the formal "gardens" which I was looking forward to. I had been very excited to see the palace…. Yes it is all quite grand but the throngs of tourists inside... Flashing away drove me nuts. I imagine that it wasn’t even as bad as it could get in peak season. On the plus side, I did see just how large Versailles actually is, who could imagine that it was all forest at one time. Having a picnic lunch at the very end of the Grand Canal was spectacular, this is where the king would come to eat and survey his palace. C’est magnifique! |
| | Quiet Canal! I had purchased spectacular jambon et pain in town at the market and the BEST bottle of wine I think I have ever had…… sadly I did not keep the label, or photograph the bottle, and for the life of me I can not remember what the heck it was called! CURSES! This was the one moment of solitude, there were only two other families down here having lunch, great way to prepare yourself for the masses! Looks very dark and stormy. Weird day, would go from sunny and clear to clouded over and windy in seconds. This shot shows the enormity that is Versailles! |
Lessons in Lines. Have you ever in your life seen trees standing so straight? It’s as if the Sun King commands them from his grave, threatening a good chopping if even a single twig dares to defy perfection! | | |
