Arid desert

Djibouti consists of one big town and harbour and lots and lots of desert. It is geographically very interesting because the great African rift start there, it has the lowest and hottest location in Africa and also because its plancton-rich waters harbours lots of life from macro-sea slugs to giant whale sharks

Whale sharks

You can only snorkel with these babies, you cannot scuba dive. Who cares? The encounters are magical and humbling.

You wil lhave to abide by strict regulations put in place to protect the sharks: minimum distance, no touching, no blocking their path etc...

Dirty town

Djibouti town is not paved apart from a few streets in the centre and the main road in/out.

The place is poorly maintained with trash everywhere, dirty pools of water/black oil etc.
