I am a scuba diver so I make frequent trips to Monterey to enjoy what Monterey Bay has to offer underwater. Divers from around the world come to this National Marine Sanctuary to enjoy the magic of the kelp forests and the life they support. Seals, otters and sea lions play in the colorful shallows and may even accompany you on your dive. Rockfish grouper and lingcod peer at you from the rocky reefs while starfish carpet the floor and nudibranchs and abalone accent the menagerie. |
| | Want to Learn to Dive? Jacques Cousteau - the founder of modern scuba diving said that this was one of his favorite places in the world to dive. For those of you interested in learning to dive there are many shops in the area that offer certification classes. My suggestion is try this shop as it is a PADI 5 Star Shop.

| | The scuba diving in Monterey Bay is cold water diving. So don't picture the crystal clear, warm waters of the caribbean. The water temperature is about 52oF (12oC) year round. This type of diving requires exposure suits, hood, gloves and boot. Really the only thing exposed to water is parts of my face. |
