A map of Gaza Strip.

I went to the Gaza Strip twice earlier this year, before the settlers pull out. I went both to the Israeli settlers part and in the Palestinian Gaza. To get to the settlers, one had to cross the Kissufim checkpoint (public buses used to run from Ashkelon), but to go to Gaza City to the Palestinians, internationals had to obtain the permit from the Israeli authorities, and then cross into Gaza via Erez checkpoint in the north. Israeli citizens are not allowed to go into the Palestinian territories, Gaza Strip including.

A view down on the Mediterranean coastline.

One can get a sense of the density of population of the Gaza Strip from this picture, and yet the situation is worst in the numerous refugee camps, where well over half of all Gazans live.

A mosque with Hamas flags

This is a mosque in Gaza City with banners of Hamas hoised on its minaret. A common picture in the Strip, pointing to politicizing of religion. (Notice piles of litter in the foreground - it barely gets cleared off Gaza City streets).

Nice and uncommonly peaceful sights of a troubled land!

Thank you for a very interesting page which presents a more 'peaceful' view of a place which usually is seen only in graphic TV footage.
