The famous spa town revival The history of Marianske Lazne (also known as Marienbad) is short and rich at same time.
At the beginning of 19th century, there was only wooded valley full of ravins and not many people knew about the healing springs hidden in it.
Only 100 years later, at the beginning of the 20th century, Marianske Lazne belonged to the most famous spa towns in the world. Just for example: the British King Edward VII came here 9 times to spent his summer.
The end of Golden Age of Spas from the beginnig of 20th century and negative impact of communist era took much of the glory away.
After the fall of communism, the things started to change for better again. Each time you return to Marianske Lazne, you will notice new or reconstructed houses and hotels decorating the already unique spa centre. |
