"A Short Trip to Denmark" Copenhagen by PKCass

I went to a meeting in Copenhagen in June 2004 and took a couple side trips to see a little of the country. I only had five days, and three of those days were spent at the meeting, leaving me only two days to really site-see. I prefer being able to spend a week or more in a country, but since that's not always possible I try to make the most of the time that I have.

Overall, I found Denmark to be very clean. The people were friendly and there were enough signs in English to make exploring on my own easy. I liked the train system and found it very easy to purchase tickets. The train runs from the airport in to the main train station in Copenhagen.

The airport was also very nice. It didn't have the rushed feel of many airports, probably because there are no speakers blaring announcements on the concourse.

Remains of Viking Boat, Viking Ship Museum

I spent part of a day in Roskilde, exploring the Viking Ship Museum. Roskilde is 35km west of Copenhagen and easily reached by train. There is a large medieval church in Roskilde, too (Roskilde Domkirke). See more pictures in my Roskilde section.

Kronberg Slot, Helsingor

Helsingor (or Elsinore in English) is also an easy train ride from Copenhagen. The main attraction here is the impressive Kronberg Slot (Castle). It's known as "Hamlet's Castle" because William Shakespeare set his fictional story Hamlet in this castle. Productions of Hamlet are occasionally staged at Kronberg Slot.
