Manchester is actually my temporary home - I'm moving back to Vancouver in Feb 2006. I moved here in Feb 2004, so I could facilitate my travels to Europe, and also live someplace different for a while.
Manchester is quite a distinct city, in that it really has its own flavour in terms of the way people dress, speak, the music they listen to, and the food they cook. It's quite multicultural - there is a huge Asian population here, which among other things, makes for some seriously good eating.
There is a lively music scene here if you're looking to see some solid acts in tiny venues. As in most big cities, you can also see overblown concerts in gigantic music, if that takes your fancy.
There are a plethora of pubs and bars in which to enjoy a nice pint of bitter (Boddington's has a strong history here) or a range of international beers, and just sit and listen to people speak in that typical northern English accent. Cheers, chuck! |

| Pros: | "Good music scene, good beers, ethnically diverse" | | Cons: | "The horrible, violent drunk lads spilling out the pubs and looking for a fight." | | In A Nutshell: | "The rough-around-the-edges, lively city of the North West" |
