I'm from Vancouver, but have just moved back after living a little over 2 years in Manchester, UK. I went there on a 2 year working holiday visa, that quickly became a regular working/living situation.

Having lived away, I wasn't sure I would be so enamoured of my home city. I feared I might start comparing it to other places. I do, but it hasn't diminished my appreciation for this city one iota. It's wonderful to come back and see this place with new eyes, and discover its hidden gems all over again, finding new ones on the way.

I'm working for the 2010 Olympic Organizing Committee, and it's very exciting. I love that we're inviting the world to our doorstep, and everyone here seems dead set on planning everything just right. As I'm in venue development, I even get to see hidden away places I've never seen before, since we're building up in the Whistler area. Let me tell you, those ski hills are amazing, and I have a newfound respect for lugers and bobsledders, but even more for the skeleton sledders. They're a crazy bunch to want to hurl themselves down such ridiculously steep hills with nary a brake pedal in sight.

So over the next 3 years I'll be working hard to give this city something else to be proud of, and I hope to see a lot of you in 2010.
