"City of obelisks and the stolen Arch" Axum by chetgar

Spent there 4 days waiting for the stolen obelisk to be returned from Rome. Unfortunately it got there two weeks after I'd parted. Still, the fairs and celebrations in anticipation of the RETURN were a good experience.
Things to see: stelae fields, small museum nearby, Queen Sheba's palace, kites over the old town (best place to make photos is on a stony hill above Queen Sheba's Bath), ancient quarries (those ancient people somehow transported tens of tonnes of stone blocks some 7 km away...)

• Pros:lots of history on the spot
• Cons:lots of self-appointed guides more expensive then elsewhere in the country
• In a nutshell:good to see, but better if the road to Eritrea was open
