The Chrysler Building, Spring 2007
New York City is famous for its office towers.

Two of its most famous towers are the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building, the tallest brick building in the world; with, perhaps, the Empire State being the better known. The Chrysler Building is my favorite office tower.

Yes, these worldwide recognized buildings are nothing more than places where ordinary people — secretaries, cleaning staff, doctors, lawyers, and the modern version of the Indian chief, the business executive — go to work each day.

“I feel sorry for the person who can't get genuinely excited about his work. Not only will he never be satisfied, but he will never achieve anything worthwhile.”
— Walter Percy Chrysler (1875–1940)

Mr. Chrysler is very wrong, and he was a cheat. He may have enjoyed his work; but those who worked for him could not enjoy theirs, especially if Mr. Chrysler refused to pay. That is what he did with William Van Alen. Van Alen, the architect of the Chrysler Building, never received his final payment for architectural work he had commissioned to do.

Chrysler had his offices in the building named for him, also other Chrysler Corporation operations were housed there. Chrysler Corporation never owned the building, nor the land on which it is built. Both were leased from the Cooper Union, a private college in New York City.

Lovely NYC page - I love to visit, and don't get to nearly as often as I would like...

Definitely! Thanks for the extremely interesting "to do" tips! On my visit I was nearby Greenwich village, but for the parks and farmers' markets want to return during a time in any of the other 3 seasons. Cheers, Marina P.S. And, please, keep on posting.
