Was on this magnificent mountain for a week in July 04. I was astounded by the beauty and variety of landscape.
From the jungles at its base through heathland into the cold of the higher slopes.
Unfortunately due to one of our team getting bad AMS on the final stretch to the summit. We failed as a team to reach the summit. A failure which I still resent to this day. I do not resent Anna, the one who fell ill, in any way as she was at no fault. Although I can't help feeling that maybe I could have done something that would have aided our struggle to the summit.
One day I will return.
I am planning a RTW trip in 06/07 in which Tanzania may well be revisited. in which case, i'll beat this big ol' lump of andasite (as I am reliably informed by geologists amongst our team) |
