Zinc!
Another night in Dubai and another good reason to party ... who needs a weekend!?! So the four of us; Dan, Michelle, Eva and me drive down to the Crowne Plaza to get a slice of some different fun ... The type where we have a band invloved!
Zinc has received many awards such as the "Whats on Magazine, 'Best Nightclub' Award" for 2003 and 2004. As expected, there was a long line outside. What was really funny though were the 'Gatekeepers', gently pushing aside a few others (couples included) to usher us smilingly through. Go Figure! It's about AED 50 a couple cover charge, though they didn't really charge us to enter that night. Singles of course have a tougher time getting in.
The place was packed to the brim, filled with a lot of beautiful and drunk people; the energy was pumped; The Canadian 7-piece band called Earthbeat rocked! There's a mix of a DJ and a band; both playing some terrific music. Of course we obliged and scorched the dance floors a bit. The drinks might be on the expensive side compared to some of the other clubs but who's complaining.
A few drinks, some excellent music, great company and life is PERFECT! What else could one ask for? Oh well, a cosy bed to get home to after a hard nights dancing I guess.
Some nights are tuned up with the Laughter Factory, a stand-up comedy bunch currently featuring the likes of Mike Gunn, Reginald D. Hunter and Ian Stone from The Comedy Store, London. This doesn't come cheap though at AED 95,
Dress Code: Zinc has a very stringent entry code. The more fashionable the better! Smart casuals for the guys, lose the keds though chaps!
Women as usual could get away with anything. I have a feeling though that they'd pretty much dress up anyways for a night at Zinc.

New Years at Clapham Junction
Clapham Junction is a casual Rock 'n' Roll bar, features live music, and offers a dance floor. It's nothing fancy, but provides the setting for down-to-earth fun and letting your hair loose.
We spent New Years Eve 2003/2004 and danced the night away. The band was great doing covers from the complete spectrum of R&R.

Outside the Lodge
One of Dubai's favorite night-spots, though not really as happening as it used to be, is the Lodge. It has numerous bars and dance-floors, including the only open-air dancefloor in Dubai.
Situated adjoining the Nasr Leisureland, next door to the Viva Goa Restaurant (which is a wonder in itself), this place plays upbeat music to a rather cosmopolitan clientel, a mix of arabs, africans, asians, and westerners. The club is suprisingly roomy, the dance floors huge and if you're lucky you won't be subject to monotunes of one variety of music dictated by a select group of the crowd.
I don't know what it is, but I think Eva sets the dancefloor on fire each time she gets onto it. Love taking her out dancing, I hope the magic never stops.

Kathy & Victor
Billy Blues is located high on the top floor of Rydges Plaza Hotel. Overlooking the lit-up city at night, the glass elevators alone make the visit worthwhile. Billy Blues is decorated with an American theme - electric guitars, records, and autographed pictures of famous musicians all over the walls. The hardwood floors are littered with empty peanut-shells (apetizer-trash you just throw on the floor), and blues sounds from the speakers.
The atmosphere is casual, laid-back, and people like to come for the beer or to play a round of pool. And the food: Billy Blues is famous for "good-ole" homecooked meals - BBQ Baby Back Pork Ribs being their most famous dish. They also offer a wide variety of other foods, drinks, and desserts.
Specials:
SUNDAY NIGHT: Steak Night. Buy one steak and get the second steak free.
MONDAY NIGHT: Ribs Night. 2 for one.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Dirty Dozen Night Drinks Dhs12/-
FRIDAY NIGHT: FRIDAY´S SPECIAL Drinks Dhs 15, Special Menu food Dhs 20/-
We went To Billy Blues for a relaxed evening with a group of friends - the couple in the picture are Kathy and Victor - they are adorable together. :-)
Dress Code: CASUAL - CASUAL - CASUAL
Jeans and Tees are highly appropriate. You might even feel a little out of place if you are dressed up, but it really doesn't matter what you wear.

Copas
You're in the heart of Bur Dubai. You don't want to go too far. Certainly not take a cab and spend your night stuck in traffic. But you'd like to let your hair down to some good music and nurse a bit of a drink. Where do you go? WHERE DO YOU GO??? COPA'S of course!!!
Bang on bank street, you walk through the lobby of the stuffy Four Points Sheraton, up the elevator and there it is: Copa's - you enter and find yourself in a brasilian dance party. Decorated with lots of bamboo, palm trees, and a jungle motive, this is the right place if you want to dance, dance and dance some more!
Open from 7pm to 3am, the place is usually packed on the weekends (Thursday and Friday nights). Mostly asians with a spattering of westerners, all out for the same thing - to have a good time. The energy, the drinks and most of all - the music: A mix of Bhangra, rave and some classics. Even though the dance floor is miniscule, it is always cramped with people, all jumping to the same beat.
Weekdays might be a bit light, though you get your own leg room and the chance to get the DJ play your requests. We went on an off-night (it was the night before the official day of mourning for the Saudi ruler), and we had the dance-floor and DJ practically to ourselves. The drinks were good, the music great, and we danced!!
NOTE: Bouncers do ask for couples at the doors, but then if you're a regular and in a group of guys and women , he'd send you straight through. It's usually a 25 buck cover charge (USD 7 - which includes a drink) to get in, but our friend doesn't really mind if he sees your face often. One thing about Copa's is the absence of pay-for-a-woman and more of the everyday kind out to get their share of fun and dance.
Drink prices are regular and you have to be 21 to get in, so take your IDs with you if you look even remotely like Peter Pan or an Orphan Anne! :)
Dress Code: Casually nice; not overly dressy. This is one of the few places where you can dress down into jeans and sneakers, but remember - absolutely no sandals (this goes for 99% of the clubs in Dubai).
Address: Bank Street, Bur Dubai
Directions: Copacopana is located on the first floor of the Bur Dubai Sheraton, right on Bank street. Up the winding staircase, elevator and look for the huge chaps and the board saying Copas.

Savage Garden's tropical theme brings to life the atmosphere of South America. You can enjoy an array of colorful cocktails, snacks, dinners, deserts, or just chill at the bar and enjoy the live-music of the Columbian house-band.
In the early evening hours Savage Garden offers Salsa lessons, and you can dance away till the early morning and practise what you've learned. Call the hotel for exact times, cost, and levels of classes offered.
Dress Code: Casual nice. Jeans are OK, but be dressed nicely - i.e. no torn shirts, etc.
