The Splendour of South Africa

by TheWanderingCamel - last update: Aug 22, 2007

Two short visits in the last twelve months have given me just a glimpse of South Africa - and the desire to return and see much more of what this magnificent country has to offer.
The combination of truly beautiful landscapes - mountains, sweeping savannah and wild, wonderful coastlines - vibrant cities, historic sites and, of course, the wildlife make South Africa one of the most exciting places that anyone could wish to see. A South African holiday has it all.

Wildlife first and foremost

The chance to see the magnificent wildlife of Africa is probably the biggest drawcard of all. Kruger Park is the biggest and the best known of all South Africa's many game parks and animal reserves and a visit here is always a fantastic experience. Patience is a necessary virtue here and you have to be prepared to wait and be still as you watch at a waterhole (This one is actually in Botswana, not South Africa, but you can practice your waiting skills here - who knows what your reward will be).

To see the "Big 5" is everybody's aim, but there are many other species that inhabit the park - and none are more visible than the pretty impala. No matter how elusive the others may be - you can always count on seeing these graceful creatures.
