Cairo, bustling, alive, home to 15 million people (or so). Where the old meets the new - the exotic, the ancient, the modern. All of these contrasts are evident the minute one steps out of the airport. How does one manage to negotiate their way if they are planning to live there?
This page will be mostly (but not solely) dedicated to helping the student, the business person, and the expat who will be living in Cairo for an extended period of time. Why? Well, when I was first moving to Cairo I had many questions that I could not easily find the answers for. I needed the inside information that is not readily available in tourist books. There is plenty of information about seeing the sights and finding hotels, but what about finding an apartment? What about cultural etiquette? What should one bring with them? How does one handle money matters? All of these types of questions are essential to one planning to relocate. I hope to be able to provide as much information as I can, based upon my own experiences. I can't guarantee it is completely accurate or there are not other ways of doing things, I can only pass on what I learned and hope you find it helpful.
Please post any questions you might have in the comments to this page or email me and I will try to answer them.
This page is still under construction so bear with me.

lynnehamman Fri Feb 27, 2009 07:13 UTC Excellent intelligent tips here on Cairo. India has tha same problem with the child labour. Its sad- but a fact of life. The Coptic area is amazing-so much history , and little is really understood.-thanks | MikeBird Thu Jan 1, 2009 11:54 UTC We too were worried when we found young boys working in a carpet factory we visited. I think Education is the way forward. Sponsorship through school and return to the factory that serves dual purpose. | Kuznetsov_Sergey Fri Nov 16, 2007 15:30 UTC Thank you for refreshing my still hot memories about this giant city! I'm making my own page right now and your tips and impressions are very useful for me. Many helpful links and wonderful pics! | karcle Wed Sep 12, 2007 18:24 UTC lot's of interesting tip's :) |
