    • We've all done it. Accepted the complimentary drink at the end of a meal, sipped it and thought "This is lovely" and bought a bottle to bring home with us - a luvverly reminder of that balmy summer evenings on the terrace of whatever restaurant we happened to find a particular favourite of a wonderful holiday.

    What happens to this stuff between buying it and opening it at home? That "delicious" pear brandy - or whatever it was, just doesn't taste the same without the moon on the water, the boats bobbing by the dock, the candlelit shadows on the konoba wall.

    At Least Do This: It does a great job of mascerating the fruit for the Christmas cake. A bottle should see you through about 10 Christmases
